Senior Accountant / Lead

About the role

An established UK accounting practice is looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Accountant/Lead to take ownership of the accounts function. The role manages workflow, supports and supervises the team and ensures work is accurate and submitted on time. It is an onsite position.

Key responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the accounts workflow and delivery across the team
• Review, finalise and approve accounts before submission to clients and relevant authorities
• Allocate work among team members according to workload, deadlines and capabilities, and monitor progress
• Prepare and review accounts and working papers, give constructive feedback and maintain quality control
• Handle complex accounting and client queries and guide the team
• Follow up on outstanding work to prevent delays and track statutory and client deadlines
• Prepare monthly internal management reports on workflow, deadlines, outstanding jobs and team performance
• Identify bottlenecks and improve processes; update managers and directors regularly
• Assist with training and mentoring of junior and senior team members
• Maintain client relationships and ensure the team follows internal procedures, accounting standards and UK compliance requirements

Required profile

• At least 8 years of experience in a UK accounting practice
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT, Corporation Tax and statutory accounts
• Experience reviewing and finalising accounts prepared by others
• ACA/ACCA qualification preferred

Required skills

• Experience with Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, TaxCalc, IRIS or similar accounting software
• Strong organisation, time management and attention to detail
• Confident communication and client-management skills
