Senior Compliance Associate Lead - Market Surveillance

About the role

Kraken's Market Surveillance function detects, investigates and reports market abuse across its regulated trading venues, including spot crypto markets, crypto futures, tokenised equities, OTC markets and consumer trading. As the programme grows, Kraken is hiring a Senior Compliance Associate Lead to take on more complex casework, own an area of the surveillance programme and act as a senior point of reference for analysts.

Key responsibilities

• Run complex investigations end to end, including cases starting as referrals rather than alerts, and present conclusions to senior compliance stakeholders and the business
• Review colleagues' work and act as a point of escalation for judgement calls on how alerts or cases should be treated
• Contribute to threshold and model reviews, recalibrating detection as trading behaviour, products and market structure change
• Support surveillance platform and tooling work, defining what detection needs to achieve and validating it
• Draft suspicious transaction and order reports and suspicious activity reports
• Contribute to market abuse risk assessment and help turn identified risks into surveillance coverage

Required profile

• At least 4 years investigating market abuse or trading conduct inside a firm subject to market conduct regulation
• Track record of running investigations end to end, writing findings regulators can rely on and presenting conclusions to stakeholders
• Solid knowledge of core market abuse typologies across asset classes
• Fluent English; based in the UK, Ireland, Cyprus or Canada

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with a surveillance platform such as Scila, Nasdaq SMARTS, Eventus or NICE Actimize
• Comfort with SQL or a similar query tool
• Exposure to threshold or model calibration, platform integration or market abuse risk assessment
• Clear, evidence-first written communication and good judgement on when to escalate

Nice to have: exposure to crypto-asset markets, mentoring or senior review experience, surveillance platform implementation experience, and electronic communications surveillance experience. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
