Senior Research Fellow – Indigenous Targeted

About the role

The Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement at UNSW is seeking a Senior Research Fellow to lead quantitative, community‑led research within the Yuwaya Ngarra‑li partnership with the Dharriwaa Elders Group. The role focuses on the Walgett Children and Young People Linked Administrative Dataset, generating evidence that informs policy for Aboriginal children and young people.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the management, analysis and reporting of the Walgett linked administrative dataset.
• Produce high‑quality publications and policy briefs based on independent research.
• Provide expert advice on data linkage and quantitative analysis to the Yuwaya Ngarra‑li team and community partners.
• Collaborate closely with the Dharriwaa Elders Group to ensure research is community‑driven and culturally appropriate.
• Contribute to the development of Indigenous Data Governance frameworks.
• Mentor junior researchers and potentially supervise staff in the future.

Required profile

• Established record of senior‑level quantitative research, preferably in criminology, health, education or Indigenous data.
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and understanding of cultural protocols.
• Demonstrated ability to produce independent, peer‑reviewed research outputs.
• Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary and community engagement.

What we offer

• Level C salary starting at $155,000 per year plus 17% superannuation and leave loading.
