Senior Sexual Health Practitioner – Termination of Pregnancy (Part‑time)

About the role

The NHS Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service is seeking an experienced nurse or midwife to join the Choices Team as a Senior Sexual Health Practitioner, focusing on termination of pregnancy services. This part‑time Band 6 position offers the opportunity to provide high‑quality abortion care within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence‑based termination of pregnancy services, including counselling, clinical assessment and procedural care.
• Collaborate with the Choices Team to ensure seamless patient pathways and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service development and audit activities.
• Uphold NHS Scotland policies on equality, diversity and patient confidentiality.

Required profile

• Registered nurse or midwife with substantial experience in abortion care.
• Current PVG Scheme membership (child and/or adult) or willingness to obtain it before starting.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
• Commitment to NHS values, including respect for diversity and provision of inclusive care.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in termination of pregnancy procedures.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills for patient counselling and inter‑professional collaboration.
