Shift Technician – Data Centre Operations

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Shift Technician to join our 24/7 team responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical infrastructure in a high‑availability data centre environment. You will play a key part in ensuring maximum uptime, operational resilience, and compliance with health, safety, and technical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on LV electrical systems, UPS systems, standby generators, HVAC/CRAC cooling, BMS, and fire suppression/detection systems.
• Conduct routine plant inspections, fault diagnosis, and first‑line response to critical alarms and incidents.
• Support contractor management, permit‑to‑work procedures, and safe system of work compliance.
• Monitor building and environmental conditions to maintain uptime and operational efficiency.
• Escalate critical issues, contribute to incident reporting and root‑cause analysis.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, shift logs, and compliance documentation.
• Assist with switching operations, isolations, and emergency response procedures in a mission‑critical environment.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, facilities management, and external vendors to support continuous operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mission‑critical facilities maintenance and data centre operations.
• Knowledge of health & safety compliance and permit‑to‑work systems.
• Relevant certifications such as City & Guilds/NVQ in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, HV/LV Authorised Person, or IOSH are advantageous.
