System Administrator – Standing Naval Forces

About the role

The incumbent will support NATO Standing Naval Forces by managing and activating deployed CIS installations and providing technical assistance to flagship vessels. The role combines on‑site, remote and off‑site support for critical mission‑critical systems.

Key responsibilities

• Transfer and activate deployed CIS installations during operational handover of SNF NATO flagships.
• Provide on‑site, remote and off‑site technical support to participating nations' flagships.
• Assist the Core Section Head with daily administration of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Exchange services.
• Manage SAN/NAS devices, perform firmware upgrades, and handle VMware ESXi and vCenter lifecycle tasks.
• Conduct routine backups in line with SLA and SOP requirements.
• Administer hardware and software for end‑user devices and maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation.
• Coordinate closely with other technicians, engineers, and the broader NCI Agency.

Required profile

• Practical experience with VMware virtualization (VCSA configuration, ESX upgrades, bare‑metal deployment).
• Ability to respond quickly to equipment failures in mission‑critical virtual environments.
• Experience deploying signed certificates and configuring iSCSI targets.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Server technologies, especially Active Directory and Exchange.
• Understanding of ITIL service‑management, incident and problem management processes.
• Proven ability to produce technical documentation and user guides.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field; relevant certifications (VCP, Microsoft, ITIL) are desirable.
