Tax Consultant – SME Advisory (Stockport)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Tax Consultant to join our dedicated tax advisory team in Stockport. The role focuses on providing tax advice to small and medium‑sized enterprises and owner‑managed businesses, helping them optimise their tax position.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with and deliver tax advisory projects for SMEs and owner‑managed businesses.
• Support senior team members on tax planning and advisory work across a range of tax areas.
• Review existing compliance work to inform advisory recommendations.
• Identify potential tax planning opportunities within client portfolios.
• Attend client meetings with senior staff to discuss tax strategies.
• Conduct technical research and prepare clear written advice.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the firm to deliver integrated client solutions.

Required profile

• CTA qualified or within two years of qualification.
• Strong background in tax compliance, preferably gained in practice.
• Experience working with SMEs and owner‑managed businesses.
• Broad general tax knowledge rather than a narrow specialist focus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical and problem‑solving ability with a proactive attitude.
