Underwriting Support Assistant (15-Month FTC)

About the role

Markel is recruiting an Underwriting Support Assistant for its Care Renewals Team in Leeds, a 15-month fixed-term contract. The team supports a portfolio of specialist care, charity, social welfare and not-for-profit clients across the UK and works alongside experienced Underwriters. The role suits recent graduates, people with customer service experience or those seeking a new challenge in a professional office environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support Underwriters and Senior Underwriters with day-to-day administration
• Run workflow reports and allocate tasks across the team
• Prepare renewal files and gather key risk information
• Coordinate property and risk surveys, review and track survey requirements
• Research and collate information such as CQC reports and supporting documentation
• Manage incoming calls, messages and broker enquiries, and follow up outstanding information with brokers
• Update internal systems and maintain accurate records
• Assist with ad hoc projects and wider team initiatives

Required profile

• Highly organised and detail focused, able to manage and prioritise multiple tasks
• Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
• Customer service, administration or office-based experience preferred; previous insurance experience is advantageous but not essential
• Full training is provided

Required skills

• Microsoft Office
• Comfortable learning new systems

• Good starting salary plus a 5% bonus at the end of the fixed-term contract
