Job description
About the role
Condé Nast, a global media publisher with brands such as Vogue, GQ, Wired, Vanity Fair and Tatler, is seeking a Vice President of Communications to lead its communications in the UK. Based in London, the role covers the full breadth of the business, from commercial strategy and corporate reputation to the journalism, editors, talent and cultural moments behind its brands. It is a UK leadership role and a senior position within Condé Nast's global communications team, reporting to the Global Communications Officer.
Key responsibilities
- Own Condé Nast's communications strategy and reputation in the UK, with a clear point of view on where the company and its brands should be part of the conversation.
- Lead corporate, business and brand communications across the UK portfolio, covering commercial priorities, editorial initiatives, talent, launches, partnerships and major cultural moments.
- Lead and develop the UK communications team, setting priorities and creating high-quality work across a complex portfolio of brands.
- Serve as a senior member of the global communications team, working closely with the Chief Communications Officer and senior communications leadership.
- Advise senior UK and European leaders on media strategy, messaging, speaking opportunities and reputation, and advise editorial leaders on achieving maximum external impact.
- Build communications around journalism and editorial leadership, helping editors, writers and creative talent shape conversations beyond their own platforms.
- Maintain strong relationships with journalists and editors across national, business, trade, broadcast and cultural media.
- Lead communications through sensitive, high-profile issues, giving clear counsel to senior leaders and coordinating responses across functions and markets.
- Work with editorial, commercial, consumer marketing, people and other teams to turn business priorities into compelling external narratives.
- Write and oversee communications materials, from messaging and executive briefs to announcements, Q&As and statements.
- Bring ideas, judgment and lessons from the UK market to the wider communications organisation.
Required profile
- A senior communications leader with approximately 12+ years of relevant experience, with depth and quality valued more than where it was acquired.
- Significant experience in media, publishing, entertainment or another business where brands, talent, culture and corporate reputation intersect.
- Deep knowledge of the UK media landscape and strong, current relationships with journalists and editors.
- Track record of advising senior executives and high-profile talent, including in complex or sensitive situations.
- Proven experience leading and developing high-performing communications teams and managing enterprise-level accountability.
- Ability to operate effectively across a global organisation and build relationships across markets, brands and functions.
Required skills
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, able to make complicated ideas clear, concise and compelling.
- Excellent news judgment and a strong instinct for what makes a story.
- Sophisticated understanding of how media consumption, platforms and influence are changing in the UK.
- Significant crisis and issues-management experience, operating calmly and decisively under pressure.
What we offer
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with extra days for moving house or volunteering.
- Pension scheme, Bupa private healthcare, season ticket loans and eye tests.
- Core hours, 10 remote days, Employee Assistance Programme, corporate gym membership and cycle to work scheme.
- Dog-friendly office, discounts and magazine subscriptions.
- Learning courses and training via the Condé Nast Learning Hub, and Employee Resource Groups.
