About the role
The University of Exeter is seeking a flexible and adaptable Welfare Consultant to join its dedicated student support team. This full‑time, permanent position will be campus‑based and involves occasional evenings and weekend work.
Key responsibilities
- Liaise with GPs, NHS, mental health services and the university Wellbeing team.
- Act as the first point of contact for students in acute emotional distress, including crisis and suicidality.
- Provide rapid, tailored support, sign‑posting and referrals to specialist services.
- Coordinate responses for students with personal difficulties and work closely with disability services.
- Collaborate with university departments, Student Finance, Access Centres and external agencies.
Required profile
- Highly qualified practitioner with substantial experience in mental‑health support for students.
- Resilient, solution‑focused attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding, inclusive practice and widening access.
- Ability to assess and manage risk within a multi‑disciplinary team.
Required skills
- Experience delivering psycho‑social interventions and case management.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
