Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse – Ward 310

About the role

Royal Derby Hospital is seeking a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join Ward 310, a 30‑bed neurology, stroke step‑down and general medical ward. You will work closely with the Senior Sister to provide visible clinical leadership, ensuring high‑quality patient care and supporting staff development in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Band 7 Ward Manager in leading the multidisciplinary team and maintaining service standards.
• Deputise for the Ward Manager when absent, overseeing day‑to‑day operations.
• Mentor, teach and assess students and junior staff on placement.
• Conduct clinical audits and drive improvement projects based on findings.
• Manage e‑learning, mandatory training, sickness, performance and staff absence.
• Act as a primary point of contact for patients, relatives and carers.
• Escalate concerns, manage complaints and handle Datix investigations.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Demonstrated experience in neurology, stroke or acute medical settings.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal abilities.
• Leadership confidence in a busy clinical environment.

Required skills

• Clinical audit methodology.
• Use of Datix incident reporting system.
• E‑learning and mandatory training management.
