General Building Operative – Prison Maintenance

About the role

Join Amey as a General Building Operative at HMP Ranby, providing essential maintenance and support across a secure prison environment. You will work a 39‑hour week on a rotating weekend schedule, earning a base salary of £28,792 plus a weekend allowance.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance tasks and assist tradespeople on site.
• Provide professional assistance, including contractor escort duties when required.
• Perform DIY duties such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture and repairing items.
• Inspect appliances, fittings and the general environment, reporting defects to the Team Leader.
• Maintain good housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping as needed.
• Support FM duties, zero‑carbon programmes and ensure health & safety standards are met.

Required profile

• Solid experience in DIY or general building maintenance.
• CITB‑relevant certification or equivalent.
• Willingness to learn new skills and work effectively within a team.
• Ability to obtain Prison Security Clearance (support provided by Amey).
