About the role
The History Department at the University of Manchester invites applications for a Lectureship in Modern British History (post‑1800). The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of scholars, contributing to both research excellence and high‑quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in modern British history.
- Supervise MA and PhD students, providing academic guidance and mentorship.
- Maintain an active research profile, securing external funding and publishing in leading journals.
- Collaborate with a team of approximately ten modern British historians on interdisciplinary projects.
- Contribute to departmental and faculty service, including curriculum development and outreach activities.
Required profile
- Established international reputation in cultural, political, social or economic history of modern Britain and its global connections.
- Evidence of high‑quality research publications and successful grant acquisition.
- Experience teaching at university level and supervising postgraduate research.
- Strong commitment to inclusive teaching and diversity, with particular interest in gender, sexuality, political culture, cultural or imperial histories encouraged.
Required skills
- Advanced research methodology in historical studies.
- Effective university‑level teaching and curriculum design.
- Supervision of MA and PhD research projects.
