Quarry Operative

About the role

Breedon Group is seeking a reliable Quarry Operative to join its Operations & Maintenance team at Shierglas Quarry, Pitlochry. You will work outdoors in a busy quarry environment, operating heavy plant and supporting the extraction, processing and handling of aggregates to meet production targets safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Operate mobile and fixed plant such as dump trucks, loading shovels, crushers and screeners.
• Assist in extraction, crushing and processing of raw materials.
• Carry out routine checks, cleaning and basic maintenance on machinery.
• Load and unload materials safely for transport or further processing.
• Follow daily work schedules and production instructions from supervisors.
• Conduct regular safety checks and report hazards, defects or incidents.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Keep the quarry site clean, safe and organised.
• Support site inspections and operational audits as required.
• Flexibly work across different roles and tasks based on site needs.

Required profile

• Competence in operating plant or machinery (e.g., loading shovel, excavator, dumper truck).
• Basic mechanical knowledge for simple maintenance tasks.
• Understanding of health and safety practices and willingness to follow procedures.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliability, punctuality and self‑motivation.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required skills

• Operation of dump trucks, loading shovels, crushers and screeners.
• CPCS or MPQC card (advantageous).
• Basic mechanical maintenance.
• First Aid or IOSH Working Safely training (beneficial).
