Senior Craftsman – Plumbing & Mechanical

About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Senior Craftsman to join its Construction Services UK team in Birmingham. You will lead high‑quality plumbing and mechanical installation work on major infrastructure projects, ensuring safety, quality and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems, pipework and associated mechanical equipment.
• Plan and deliver temporary plumbing solutions in line with project schedules.
• Work from approved Work Package Plans, risk assessments and toolbox talks, identifying hazards and applying controls.
• Maintain plant, equipment and tools to ensure they are safe and suitable for use.
• Monitor workmanship standards, support quality assurance activities and conduct BIM Field 360 inspections.
• Promote Balfour Beatty values, Zero Harm safety culture and continuous improvement.
• Report and resolve non‑conformances promptly and support environmental and sustainability objectives.

Required profile

• Fully qualified Plumber, Mechanical Fitter or equivalent trade qualification.
• Proven experience delivering plumbing installations, repairs and maintenance on construction or infrastructure projects.
• Current CSCS Card and full UK driving licence.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
• Ability to work independently, flexible to nights and weekends when required.
