Construction Manager

About the role

Careys is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead site operations on major civil engineering projects in the UK. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will own day‑to‑day delivery from mobilisation through handover, ensuring safety, quality and programme performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead site operations to deliver works safely, on time and to specification.
• Manage supervisors, foremen, operatives, subcontractors and supply‑chain partners.
• Oversee construction sequencing, logistics, temporary works and daily briefings.
• Champion health, safety and environment standards, ensuring compliance with RAMS, permits, lifting plans and CDM regulations.
• Conduct site inspections, enforce safe systems of work and promote a proactive safety culture.
• Ensure works meet QA/QC procedures, support design reviews and technical coordination.
• Monitor labour, plant and production outputs, support budgeting and cost‑control activities.
• Identify delays, variations and operational risks early and produce accurate progress reports.
• Lead and motivate the on‑site team, fostering collaboration with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Works Manager on civil engineering projects.
• Strong background in civil construction with the ability to lead in fast‑paced operational environments.
• Excellent communication skills and a track record of managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
