About the role
The Design Manager will lead design and engineering activities for complex infrastructure projects, ensuring deliverables meet scope, programme and budget requirements. You will embed health, safety, environmental and quality standards throughout all design stages and act as the main liaison between design, construction and operational teams.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage all design and engineering processes across projects.
- Deliver design outputs on time and within budget.
- Develop and maintain the design deliverables schedule.
- Oversee design reviews, stage gates and risk reduction activities.
- Provide technical support to project teams and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Manage design queries (TQ/RFI/NCR) and coordinate design planning with construction programmes.
- Serve as primary contact for client design representatives and produce regular progress reports.
- Chair design and interface meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage external designers, suppliers, subcontractors and BIM/digital delivery requirements.
- Control design change processes and support commercial management of design activities.
Required profile
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in civil engineering or similar projects.
- Experience in both design and construction environments.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering processes, standards and compliance.
- Professional accreditation (e.g., Incorporated Engineer) is desirable.
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) knowledge is a plus.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience using Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of BIM and digital delivery tools.
