Ground Worker – On-site Construction Role

About the role

KELF Civil Engineering Ltd is seeking a full‑time Ground Worker to join its on‑site team in Herstmonceux. The role involves carrying out a wide range of groundworks tasks on civil engineering projects, supporting the delivery of foundations, services and drainage works.

Key responsibilities

• Excavate, trench and install drainage systems.
• Carry out concreting and prepare sub‑bases for foundations and services.
• Perform site clearance, set out levels under supervision and assist with kerbing, edging and paving.
• Operate small plant and hand/power tools safely.
• Maintain tools and equipment, keep work areas tidy and support other site activities.
• Follow company health, safety and environmental procedures at all times.

Required profile

• Valid CSCS card or equivalent construction site competence.
• Proven experience in groundworks, including excavation, drainage and concreting.
• Understanding of landscaping and safe work around trees and vegetation.
• Good awareness of site health and safety, manual handling and safe tool use.
• Ability to follow technical instructions, read drawings under guidance and work effectively within a site team.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Full UK driving licence and own transport are advantageous.
