Principal Power Systems Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Power Systems Design Engineer to lead the design of high‑voltage infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the UK. This senior position offers technical ownership of complex power system solutions, from feasibility studies through to detailed design and final approval.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end design of power systems ranging from 11 kV to 132 kV.
• Deliver designs from feasibility to detailed design and secure final approvals.
• Integrate renewable energy assets such as PV and BESS into grid infrastructure.
• Develop and implement SCADA systems for substations and energy projects.
• Apply communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, MODBUS) and ensure compliance with BS, BSEN, ENA, IEC standards and H&S regulations.
• Provide technical assurance, conduct design reviews and sign‑off.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support client engagement and business growth.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in power systems design within the T&D sector.
• Strong experience with high‑voltage equipment and substation design.
• Proficiency in SCADA systems and CAD tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
