School Caretaker – Hackney (Full‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join a vibrant school located near Hackney, East London. This role is ideal for someone who is hands‑on and has a passion for maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lock up the site and set the alarm each day.
• Carry out weekly fire alarm checks and maintain safety protocols.
• Perform general repairs, maintenance tasks and unblock sinks and toilets.
• Fix door and window handles, replace toilet seats, install shelves and pin boards.
• Paint and decorate areas as required.
• Conduct daily health and safety checks to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.
• Oversee contractors on site, ensuring work meets standards.
• Provide porterage services, move furniture and deliver parcels.
• Pick up litter, sweep leaves, empty bins and replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels and hand sanitizer.
• Maintain school grounds and carry out any other duties as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role (preferred).
• Ability to perform physical tasks and handle various handyperson duties.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Reliability, punctuality and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
