Science Technician - Part-time

About the role

We are partnering with an ambitious secondary school in Wigan to recruit a part‑time Science Technician. Working three days a week from September, you will support the Science Department by preparing practical lessons and ensuring the laboratories run safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare apparatus, chemicals and resources for Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons.
• Set up and organise practical experiments in line with lesson plans.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine checks and report faults.
• Manage stock levels, assist with ordering consumables and keep inventories up to date.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures in labs and preparation areas.
• Support departmental administration and assist teaching staff with day‑to‑day operations.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Science Technician, Laboratory Technician or similar support role.
• A scientific background gained through education or employment.
• Good understanding of laboratory health and safety practices.
• Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and communicate effectively.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
