About the role
The school is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs in Oldham. You will work within a highly personalised curriculum that promotes communication, independence and quality of life, collaborating closely with teachers, therapists and healthcare professionals.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day support for pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs.
- Assist with personal care, ensuring dignity and promoting independence.
- Support feeding programmes, including PEG feeding, following training.
- Carry out moving and handling procedures using specialist equipment and hoisting devices.
- Work alongside therapists to deliver sensory and communication activities.
- Monitor pupil wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
- Encourage engagement and participation at each pupil’s individual level.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Required profile
- Compassionate, patient and resilient.
- Comfortable providing personal care with respect and dignity.
- Ability to work in a practical, hands‑on environment.
- Experience in SEN schools, specialist provisions or care settings is desirable.
Required skills
- PEG feeding procedures.
- Moving and handling techniques using specialist equipment.
- Operation of hoisting and positioning devices.
