SEN Teaching Assistant – PMLD & Complex Needs

About the role

The school is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs in Oldham. You will work within a highly personalised curriculum that promotes communication, independence and quality of life, collaborating closely with teachers, therapists and healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day support for pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs.
• Assist with personal care, ensuring dignity and promoting independence.
• Support feeding programmes, including PEG feeding, following training.
• Carry out moving and handling procedures using specialist equipment and hoisting devices.
• Work alongside therapists to deliver sensory and communication activities.
• Monitor pupil wellbeing and report concerns promptly.
• Encourage engagement and participation at each pupil’s individual level.
• Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Compassionate, patient and resilient.
• Comfortable providing personal care with respect and dignity.
• Ability to work in a practical, hands‑on environment.
• Experience in SEN schools, specialist provisions or care settings is desirable.

Required skills

• PEG feeding procedures.
• Moving and handling techniques using specialist equipment.
• Operation of hoisting and positioning devices.
