SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary School)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in East Grinstead. The role supports pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, working Monday‑Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm on a permanent, part‑time, term‑time basis starting September 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Assist class teachers in delivering lessons and supporting pupils’ learning.
• Provide targeted one‑to‑one or small‑group support, especially for children with SEND.
• Promote positive behaviour and uphold school policies.
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive and engaging classroom environment.
• Prepare resources, organise materials and support classroom set‑up.
• Observe, record and report pupil progress.
• Facilitate communication between staff, pupils and parents.
• Supervise pupils during lunchtime and contribute to the wider school ethos.

Required profile

• Genuine passion for working with children.
• Motivated, proactive and energetic.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues.
• Good literacy, numeracy and communication skills.
• Calm, patient and adaptable with a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding.

Required skills

• Relevant childcare or education qualification (Level 2/3) or willingness to obtain one.
• GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting.
