About the role
Teaching Personnel are recruiting a proactive, confident and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support young people with complex additional needs in a secondary school in Oldham. The role involves delivering personalised, trauma‑informed support that promotes academic progress, emotional regulation and social development.
Key responsibilities
- Support pupils with PMLD, CLDD, Autism, sensory processing difficulties and related challenging behaviours in line with individual EHCP targets.
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group assistance, adapting activities to meet sensory, cognitive, behavioural, emotional and communication needs.
- Utilise PECS, visual timetables, communication aids, sensory regulation strategies and structured routines to enhance engagement and understanding.
- Identify triggers and early signs of dysregulation, applying de‑escalation techniques, positive behaviour management and Team Teach approaches where appropriate.
- Maintain safety, dignity and consistency while supporting pupils during both regulated and dysregulated states.

- Resilient, calm and able to maintain structured, consistent approaches.
- Understanding of underlying causes of challenging behaviour and trauma‑informed practice.
